Fall-Themed Quilting

It’s hard to believe that October is right around the corner! Where has the year gone?I can’t complain though, because October is truly my favourite time of the year and it couldn’t come quick enough. As we approach the month of October fabric stores start to release more fall-inspired prints and colour schemes. The warm and vibrant colours and patterns are very enticing and have inspired me to start creating some fall-themed sewing projects and quilts of my own.

Pumpkin Season – Quilt Block One

I started these quilt blocks a few weeks ago. These quilt blocks were made using pieces of scrap fabric from a previous fall-inspired quilt. It was so fun to finish using up the scraps from a previous project as they have been very patiently waiting. I’ve made sure to include some photos of this fall-inpspired quilt for those of you who are interested in my previous work, I have quite aptly called it the ‘Autumn Dream’.

Pumpkin Pie Time – Quilt Block Two

At the moment I don’t have any particular big fall-themed project planned, but I wanted to create something using the gorgeous fabrics already in my collection. So to kick off the pumpkin season I created three diffrent quilt blocks. These blocks measure 16″ x 16″ finished (16.5″ x 16.5″ unfinished). I didn’t work with any particular pattern in mind with these blocks as I really wanted to experiment with the different colour schemes and prints, seeing what works well and what doesn’t.

Turkey Time – Quilt Block Three

I thought it would be fun to share the variety of fall-themed quilt blocks that I created in case you’re in the mood to start something pumpkin-flavored yourself. Enjoy!

  1. Fantastic article! I love the fall fabric collections too! There is just something about blending oranges, browns and greens.

What is the best way to design quilt blocks? I sometimes get overwhelmed with the fabric selection in store and don’t know where to begin.

    1. Thank you for your beautiful comment Zan! My advice with designing any quilt block is to look for some inspiration from other quilters, there are so many fabulous quilters out there who share their marvelous work online for us to peruse. The world is truly your oyster, and hopefully you can use these quilt blocks for some inspiration too 🙂

      Thanks,
      Georgia
